However you celebrate, I hope you’re being safe and feeling safe and being happy as we can be in these wild times. I’m in California, and this is how we’re doing. If you are in Georgia, please vote. Stacey Abrams and Fair Fight are leading the historic effort. We are fighting for our lives.
…how about six-ish things for this HRDlist?
1) Dionne Warwick is pictured above because she is Dionne Warwick — and because she is currently who you need to follow on Twitter.
2) Among the many newsletters I love are The Black Fantastic, Floricua, The Sociology of Business, Black Tech Pipeline, Culture Study, Nichelle’s Newsletter, and Music Journalism Insider.
3) Weirdly, I’ve probably watched only two episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, but I’m super excited for Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton (and I live for her Year of Yes).
4) This list makes me want to make time to stream ⬇️
5) Being from the nation of California, I know a bit about its history of black beaches and black resorts. But it’s still deep to read about how there was a significant and vibrant black population in Santa Monica, CA — how it was for them, what the dancehalls and churches were like, and how it pretty much ended.
6) This week I’m going to read a story about ‘why the low-quality imperfections of VHS made the media format…special.’ Same for a story about how Clubhouse might become the next ‘internet wasteland.’ Also, I need to know about this ⬇️
We do Christmas over here, so wish me well as I roast this small turkey, candy some yams, and make a blood orange pound cake.
